A nightly call
Once you've been diagnosed with high eye pressure or open-angle glaucoma, the condition is a permanent part of your life. To help make your treatment a regular habit, consider asking a friend or family member for a nightly reminder phone call to help you apply your eyedrops on time.
Friends save time
There's another reason to involve a friend or loved one. A lot of what happens at an eye care appointment takes time. Asking your questions, making sure you understand instructions, sharing your experiences and problems all require more time than many busy eye care professionals have these days. Bringing someone with you can help you speed through your agenda by remembering all your discussion points, asking questions you may not have thought of, and providing another pair of ears to hear test results, instructions, and other things the doctor tells you.
Relatives can learn, too
Siblings or grown children are the perfect companions for your eye care appointments. They're at risk too! By listening, asking questions, and absorbing information, they can learn about the importance of early detection and treatment themselves.
